MILANO FASHION WEEK

MILANO FASHION WEEK

Milan Fashion Week was established in 1958, inspired by GB fashion shows. Giorgini, who in 1951 in Florence was the first to present the collections of Italian high fashion designers to international journalists and buyers. However, in the 60s and 70s, Milan began to stand out as an industrial and dynamic city, becoming the heart of design and communication. Here a new conception of fashion developed, less bound to artisanal “haute couture” and more oriented towards ready-to-wear, or ready-to-wear fashion, designed to be produced and sold on a large scale.

In 1979, Milan Fashion Week was officially established, coordinated by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion (founded in 1958), which organized a common calendar of fashion shows for the first time.
The aim was to give international visibility to the Milanese fashion system, which was growing with designers destined to become legendary: Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace after Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Moschino, etc
It was born in Milan because of its economic centrality: Milan was (and remains) the industrial and financial engine of Italy, connected with the world and with a strong textile and manufacturing industry in Lombardy.
In the world of fashion there are four official capitals, called the Big Four: New York, London, Milan and Paris.
Compared to the ostentatious elegance of Paris, the punk side of London and the multiculturalism of New York, Milan seems a little small, yet there is something truly special about this fashion week.
